One of Savannah’s top notch wedding planners we have had the joy to work with on several occasions. Elizabeth not only gave the aesthetic vision and art direction for the Jekyll Island wedding produced shoots, but she also helped to plan the recent Savannah Weddings “Behind the Veil” event at the Jepson Center for the Arts. So we can say from firsthand experience that Elizabeth is one of the best visionaries in Savannah. Her services including event planning, coordination, and design in Savannah, the Low Country, and is available for consulting and travel to anywhere. She also has a successful photo styling career, working with almost every major magazine publication across the country, including Better Home and Gardens and Southern Living.

Ami and Jeffe Steele are an adorable couple that we had the pleasure of photographing their Savannah wedding. They came from just across the river in Columbia, South Carolina, but they met doing missionary work.

The ceremony took place at the Whitefield Chapel at the Bethesda Home for Boys, a wonderful red brick chapel, complete with choir loft and cobblestone floor. The pews tell stories of the boys who carved their names into the old weathered wood. And outside the chapel doors is a beautiful road lined in Savannah’s much loved oak trees covered in Spanish moss. The reception followed the ceremony at the Westin Hotel, across the Savannah River on Hutchinson Island.

Amy and Tony are a fun loving couple that traveled all the way from Tennessee to use Savannah as their gorgeous wedding backdrop.  After a small twenty person ceremony at the beautiful Westin Hotel located right on the Savannah River, Amy and Tony jumped in the car and used the entire city of Savannah for their portraits.  Why not after traveling all that way? The weather was beautiful and the lighting perfect, making for some amazing wedding photographs. Here are some favorites that were taken downtown in Savannah’s Forsyth Park, known for its famous fountain and oak trees dropping in Spanish moss.

Last week we also met with the amazingly talented Kiwi Fleur. Originally from New Zealand, Vicki Sepielli now calls the beautiful city of Spanish moss-covered trees home. Fortunately for us she has retained her lovely accent, and has the wonderful charm of any Southern belle. While her personality will sweep you off your feet, her flowers will take your breath away. Her studio space gives you a wonderful idea of what she is capable of, but don’t let it limit your imagination. She is known for thinking outside the box… and making any bride’s dreams come true. She says her “creations are inspired by the vibrancy and elegance of European and international floral designs.” She is an absolute joy to work with and we would proudly recommend her as a top wedding professional in Savannah.

After all, what happens to the rest of the day?

Flowers wilt. Cake and champagne disappears. The groom’s tuxedo will go back to the shop. The bride’s veil likely won’t blend with the dress code at the office. But the photographs…..

Last week, we had the pleasure to meet with Jessica Denmark, the facilities rental manager at the Telfair Museum of Art in downtown Savannah. She has a wonderful and welcoming personality, which draws you in. She is a Savannah native. She has worked all over Savannah, including the Mansion on Forsyth Park, and the Forsyth Inn. Being that she has all this experience with multiple venues in the city, she has a great understanding of the wedding network throughout Savannah, which is an important asset for brides.

The Telfair itself is a wonderful venue for a wedding… high ceilings, a beautiful entry way, lots of wonderful natural light, and of course, the most important, plenty of unique spots to take photos! Not only do you have the museum at your disposal, but the beautiful square just beyond it’s front door.

Well not only did we shoot one beautiful wedding on Jekyll Island, Georgia, just a couple hours south of the lovely city of Savannah, we shot two! We felt it important to capture two very different styles, and this shoot shows off a more formal event.

The inspiration behind this wedding was the beautiful season of autumn… and we felt the moss covered trees, seen all over Savannah, blended beautifully with this vision. The story we dreamed was of a couple that met at law school… and felt it important to keep their wedding as eco-friendly as possible. So the “green” theme was ever present in the decor… from eco-friendly stationery, to oak seedlings as favors.

The wedding ceremony was held at old ruins found along the edge of a forest. It brought together the beauty of the outdoors, but still in an intimate setting. It shows that the right location doesn’t need to be decorated… the beauty is in the surroundings. Location, location, location! The reception was also outdoors, but in a courtyard at a cottage at the Jekyll Island Club property. Criss-crossed cafe lights over a beautiful fountain helped to create ambiance fit for an intimate celebration.

A neat idea to discuss with your photographers is somewhere to take your portraits that is not part of either the ceremony or reception site. For this shoot we hopped on over to the local oyster bar. Not only was it fun and casual, but it made for some great, unique photos. Photos are one of the very few things that you get to keep after your wedding day is over, so not only is it important to pick the right wedding photographer, but also to make sure you get photos that you will be happy with for years to come. Gone are the days of traditional portraits with the family stacked up at the front of the church… so don’t be afraid to be unique and different with your photos. After all, they are your photos.
